At
Harbor, we are passionate about the gospel. We say that the gospel is
not only the ABC's but also the “A to Z” of the Christian life as well.
In other words, it is not only through the gospel that people come into
a relationship with God, but it is also through the gospel that
Christians deepen and really grow in their relationship with God.
Thus, the gospel centered approach in worship not only encourages and
challenges Christians but also invites people to investigate and
process Christianity.
- Worship that encourages and challenges Christians.
The
gospel makes us feel neither guilty nor proud about obeying Jesus, but
Jesus' love in the cross so overwhelms us that out of gratitude we obey
and live. To learn more about how the gospel impacts Christians (and to
understand our approach to Christ centered preaching/worship), we
encourage you to read an article entitled “The Centrality of the Gospel” by Tim Keller.
- Worship that invites people to investigate Christianity and ask questions.
At
Harbor, we want to be known as a church that has a reputation for
listening to and understanding other religions and worldviews. In
addition, we desire to be a church that provides people with the
opportunity to learn what Christians believe – ie the gospel of God's
grace in Christ and how the gospel changes everything – our approach to
relationships, suffering, money, sex, family, and work. To learn more
our gospel centered approach in worship as a way for people to
investigate Christianity, we encourage you to read “The Missional Church” by Tim Keller.
These two articles can be found here at our sister church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, NY.
